Noncarnivorous

Noncarnivorous refers to organisms that do not primarily consume meat. This broad category encompasses a vast majority of life on Earth and includes animals that feed on plants, fungi, or other non-animal sources. The term is essentially the opposite of carnivorous.

Within the noncarnivorous spectrum, there are further classifications based on diet. Herbivores are animals that exclusively eat plants, such as deer, cows, and rabbits. Omnivores consume both plants and animals, like humans, bears, and pigs, but their diet is not exclusively meat-based. Frugivores specialize in eating fruit, while insectivores primarily eat insects. Detritivores consume dead organic matter, which can include decaying plant and animal material, but their sustenance is not derived from actively hunting live animals.
