Nominalmaß
Nominalmaß refers to a type of measurement scale in statistics. It is the lowest level of measurement and is used for data that can be categorized but not ordered. Nominal data simply labels or names categories. Examples include gender (male, female, non-binary), eye color (blue, brown, green), or marital status (single, married, divorced). Arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division cannot be performed on nominal data because the categories do not have any inherent numerical value or order. The only statistical analysis that is appropriate for nominal data is counting frequencies or calculating proportions within each category. For instance, one can determine the percentage of people with blue eyes in a population. When comparing nominal data, one can only determine if the categories are the same or different, or if the distribution of data across categories is different between groups. It is crucial to recognize nominal data to avoid applying inappropriate statistical methods that could lead to invalid conclusions.
