Nollavälitaajuusvastaanottimet, often referred to as zero-IF receivers or direct-conversion receivers, represent a type of radio receiver architecture. Instead of downconverting the radio frequency signal to an intermediate frequency (IF) for further processing, these receivers convert the incoming signal directly to baseband, which is the zero frequency. This direct conversion eliminates the need for one or more intermediate frequency stages, simplifying the receiver's design.

The core principle involves mixing the received radio frequency signal with a local oscillator (LO) signal that has the same frequency. This mixing process produces sum and difference frequencies. The desired signal is typically at the difference frequency, which is zero Hz or baseband. The output of the mixer then goes through low-pass filters to remove unwanted frequency components, including the sum frequency and any residual LO or IF signals that might have leaked through.

Nollavälitaajuusvastaanottimet offer several advantages, including potentially lower cost, reduced component count, and smaller size compared to traditional superheterodyne receivers. This makes them attractive for applications where space and power consumption are critical, such as in mobile phones and other portable wireless devices.
