Nkora

Nkora is a fictional city and administrative capital in the imaginary country of Lethara, used in educational and literary contexts to illustrate urban planning and governance. The city is situated on the delta of the Nkora River and features a mix of wetlands, riverfront, and terraced urban blocks. The urban area covers about 120 square kilometers and hosts roughly 350,000 residents, with a central business district surrounding the historic core.

Nkora traces its origins to the 12th century when settlers from the Nkori culture established a trading site near the river. It grew as a regional hub during subsequent centuries, expanding rapidly in the industrial era and adopting modern municipal reforms in the 19th and 20th centuries to accommodate demographic change and infrastructure needs.

Nkora operates under a mayor-council system. The City Council, comprising 15 members, is elected to four-year terms. City departments include transport, housing, environment, and urban planning, with a planning commission guiding long-term development and zoning.

The economy is diversified, combining logistics and port activities with manufacturing and services. The river port handles regional trade, while the central district hosts technology startups and creative industries that contribute to employment and innovation.

Notable sites are Nkora Park, the Old Market Arcade, and the Riverfront Promenade. An annual Harvest Festival celebrates agricultural heritage and attracts visitors from across Lethara.

A municipal university campus and a technical institute serve higher education and research. The population is ethnically diverse, with Nkori, Mendi, and coastal communities represented, and several languages spoken.
