Nimivaldkond
Nimivaldkond is a conceptual framework that emerged in Estonian linguistics and cultural studies to describe the semantic and sociological domain of personal names within Estonian society. The term, meaning “name field” in Estonian, was introduced by the linguist Juhan Tammiste in a 2008 monograph to systematise the ways in which given names, surnames and diminutives function as markers of identity, ethnicity, and social status.
