In Estonian, for instance, nimisõnastamine can occur through affixation, where suffixes are added to a base word. The adjective "ilus" (beautiful) can be transformed into the noun "ilusus" (beauty) with the suffix "-us". This process is not limited to Estonian; similar mechanisms exist in English, such as adding "-ness" to adjectives (e.g., "kind" to "kindness") or "-er" to verbs (e.g., "teach" to "teacher").

Nimisõnastamine can also occur through conversion, where a word changes its grammatical category without any morphological change. For example, in English, the verb "run" can be used as a noun, as in "go for a run."
