Neljataktilise

Neljataktiline refers to a four-stroke cycle, a thermodynamic process fundamental to internal combustion engines. This cycle describes the sequence of events that occur within a cylinder to convert chemical energy from fuel into mechanical work. The four strokes are intake, compression, power, and exhaust.

The intake stroke begins with the piston moving downwards, increasing the volume of the cylinder. The intake valve opens, allowing a mixture of fuel and air to be drawn into the cylinder. Once the piston reaches the bottom of its stroke, the intake valve closes.

The compression stroke follows, with the piston moving upwards. Both intake and exhaust valves are closed, and the fuel-air mixture is compressed, increasing its temperature and pressure.

The power stroke is initiated by the ignition of the compressed fuel-air mixture, typically by a spark plug. The rapid combustion creates a high-pressure gas that forces the piston downwards, generating the mechanical force that drives the engine.

Finally, the exhaust stroke occurs as the piston moves upwards again. The exhaust valve opens, expelling the burnt gases from the cylinder. Once the piston reaches the top, the exhaust valve closes, and the cycle repeats. This four-stroke principle is employed in the vast majority of gasoline and diesel engines found in automobiles and many other applications.
