Natanz

Natanz is a city in Isfahan Province, Iran, and the capital of Natanz County. It lies in central Iran and serves as a local administrative and commercial center. The surrounding area is used for agriculture and small-scale manufacturing, and the city has historical sites and traditional architecture.

The Natanz uranium enrichment facility, operated by Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, is located near the city. It comprises the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant and a larger enrichment facility. The existence of the site was disclosed in 2002, prompting IAEA investigations and international diplomacy, including the JCPOA framework established in 2015 and ongoing monitoring.

In 2010, Natanz gained international attention after the Stuxnet cyberattack damaged centrifuges at the facility. The incident is widely believed to have been a cyberattack carried out by the US and Israel, according to various investigations and reporting. The facility remains central to international discussions on Iran's nuclear program.
