The most prominent bearer is John Forbes Nash Jr. (1928–2015), an American mathematician whose work spanned game theory, geometry, and analysis. In game theory, he introduced the Nash equilibrium, a stable situation in which no player can improve their outcome by unilaterally changing their strategy. In differential geometry, he proved the Nash embedding theorem, which shows that any abstract Riemannian manifold can be isometrically embedded in a Euclidean space. He also contributed to nonlinear analysis; the Nash–Moser inverse function theorem bears his name. His life and work were popularized by the film A Beautiful Mind.
