Nanzhao
Nanzhao was a powerful kingdom that existed in what is now Yunnan province, China, from the mid-8th to the mid-9th century. Its people were primarily of the Bai ethnic group, though the kingdom encompassed a diverse population. Nanzhao emerged as a unified state in 738 CE under King Piluoge, consolidating various tribal groups. The kingdom's strategic location facilitated its rise, allowing it to control trade routes between China, Tibet, and Southeast Asia.
