Nadzab

Nadzab is a town located in the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea. Situated near the Markham River and approximately 14 kilometers southwest of Lae, the country's second-largest city, Nadzab has historical significance due to its role in World War II.

During the war, Nadzab became a strategic military airfield following its capture by Allied forces from the Japanese in 1943. The airfield was expanded to support Allied operations in the Pacific Theater, playing a critical role in subsequent military campaigns. After the war, the airfield was developed into an important transportation hub for the region, facilitating both civilian and military flights.

Today, Nadzab is an essential part of the Morobe Province, serving as a key gateway to Lae and surrounding areas. The Nadzab Airport, located on the site of the former military airfield, is one of the main airports in Papua New Guinea, providing domestic flights connecting Lae with other parts of the country. The region's economy primarily revolves around agriculture, with palm oil, cocoa, and other crops being significant contributors.

Despite its infrastructural contributions, Nadzab remains a relatively small town with a modest population. It is characterized by rural landscapes and serves as a hub for transportation and logistic activities within the region.
