Na2SnO3

Sodium stannate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Na2SnO3. It is the sodium salt of stannic acid. Sodium stannate typically exists as a hydrate, with the most common form being the trihydrate, Na2SnO3·3H2O. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water. When dissolved in water, it hydrolyzes to form stannic acid.

The preparation of sodium stannate can be achieved by reacting tin(IV) oxide with a solution of sodium hydroxide. Alternatively, it can be formed by the fusion of tin(IV) oxide with sodium carbonate. Sodium stannate has been used in various applications, including as a mordant in dyeing textiles and as a component in glazes for ceramics. It has also found use in the electroplating industry for depositing tin coatings. Due to the toxicity associated with tin compounds, handling sodium stannate requires appropriate safety precautions.
