NVEnhet

NVEnhet, or Norwegian Volunteer Unit, was a military unit formed during World War II. It consisted of Norwegian volunteers who fought alongside the Allies against the Axis powers. The unit was established in 1941, following the German occupation of Norway, and was initially known as the Norwegian Independent Company 1 (NIF 1). NVEnhet played a significant role in the resistance against the Nazis, particularly in the North of Norway.

The volunteers in NVEnhet were primarily Norwegian soldiers who had escaped from German captivity or who had managed to evade capture. They were trained and equipped by the British and later by the Americans. The unit was involved in various operations, including sabotage, reconnaissance, and direct combat against German forces. One of the most notable actions was the destruction of the German battleship Tirpitz in 1944.

NVEnhet was known for its bravery and determination. Many of its members were decorated for their service, and several received the highest military honors. The unit's legacy continues to be celebrated in Norway, where it is remembered as a symbol of resistance and courage during a dark period in the country's history.
