NCMHCE

The National Certified Mental Health Counselor Examination, or NCMHCE, is a credentialing examination required for licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or equivalent in many states within the United States. It is administered by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). The exam assesses the knowledge and skills necessary for competent practice in mental health counseling.

The NCMHCE is a computer-based test consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions. The content domains covered include diagnostic and treatment planning, application of psychotherapeutic techniques, ethics and legal issues, and professional practice and research. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an understanding of various theoretical orientations, assessment methods, and therapeutic interventions applicable to a wide range of mental health issues and populations. The exam is designed to evaluate a counselor's ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical clinical situations.

To be eligible to take the NCMHCE, individuals typically must meet specific educational and supervised experience requirements set by the NBCC and the state licensing boards. These requirements generally include holding a master's degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited institution and completing a certain number of supervised clinical hours.
