Mélykisülés

Mélykisülés is a Hungarian term that translates to "deep discharge" in English. It refers to the condition of a battery where its voltage has fallen below its safe minimum operating level. This can occur when a battery is used for an extended period without recharging, or when a device draws more power than the battery can supply.

When a battery undergoes deep discharge, it can suffer detrimental effects. The chemical reactions within the battery can become irreversible, leading to a permanent loss of capacity. In some battery chemistries, particularly lithium-ion batteries, deep discharge can also pose a safety risk, potentially leading to thermal runaway or other hazardous conditions. Modern electronic devices and battery management systems are designed to prevent deep discharge by cutting off power when the battery reaches a critically low voltage. However, in older devices or in situations where these protective measures fail, deep discharge remains a concern. Recharging a deeply discharged battery may not always be possible, or the battery may have significantly reduced performance and lifespan after such an event.
