The term "mångantenner" is primarily used in Swedish to describe these systems, which are widely employed in modern wireless networks, including Wi-Fi and mobile communications.

The primary purpose of mångantenner is to enhance signal quality, increase data throughput, and improve reliability in wireless communication. By leveraging spatial diversity, these systems can mitigate the effects of fading, interference, and multipath propagation, which are common challenges in wireless environments. This is achieved through techniques such as beamforming, where signals are directed toward specific receivers, or through spatial multiplexing, which allows multiple data streams to be transmitted simultaneously over the same frequency band.

Mångantenner technology is a key component in standards like IEEE 802.11n (Wi-Fi), 802.11ac, and 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), as well as in cellular networks such as 4G LTE and 5G.
