Munatius

Munatius is a rare Roman nomen, a family name or gens in ancient Rome. The origins of the Munatii are not well documented, but it is believed to have been of Italian or Sabine origin. The gens is known to have been present in Rome since the 3rd century BC.

The Munatii were patrician, descending from a noble family that held significant influence in Rome. Members of the family held various public offices throughout Roman history, including censor, consul, and magister equitum. The most notable Munatius was Quintus Munatius Rufus, a senator who served during the 1st century BC.

The Munatii were also known for their literary and poetic accomplishments. A prominent Munatius, Quintus, was known to be a poet, and a few of his works have survived to this day. Additionally, a Cato the Censor's commentator, a commentarius by Quintus Munatius Rufus, has survived to the modern age.
