Moultrie

Moultrie is a city located in Colquitt County, Georgia, United States. It is the county seat and the largest city in Colquitt County. Moultrie is situated in the southwestern part of Georgia, often referred to as the "Sunbelt" region. The city's economy has historically been based on agriculture, particularly cotton, tobacco, and pecans. In recent times, diversified industries have also contributed to its economic landscape.

The area that is now Moultrie was settled in the early 19th century, and it was incorporated as a town in 1859. It was named after General William Moultrie, a Revolutionary War hero. The arrival of the Georgia Northern Railway in the late 19th century spurred growth and development in Moultrie, solidifying its role as a commercial center for the surrounding agricultural communities.
