Motionactivated refers to a device or system that operates in response to the detection of movement. These systems typically employ sensors to identify changes in the surrounding environment, such as the displacement of an object or a person. Upon detecting motion, the activated system can trigger a variety of actions, depending on its design and purpose.

Common applications of motionactivated technology include security systems, where motion detectors can trigger alarms or alert authorities. In lighting, motion activation conserves energy by turning lights on only when a presence is detected and off when the area is empty. This is frequently seen in outdoor security lights, public restrooms, and even some household lamps. Other uses include automatic doors, which open when a person approaches, and certain types of cameras that begin recording when movement is sensed.

The sensors used in motionactivated devices vary. Passive infrared (PIR) sensors are common and detect changes in infrared radiation emitted by warm bodies. Microwave sensors emit microwaves and detect changes in the reflected waves caused by movement. Ultrasonic sensors emit sound waves and detect changes in their return echo. Some systems may use a combination of these technologies for increased accuracy and to reduce false triggers. The sensitivity and range of these sensors can often be adjusted to suit specific environmental conditions and desired operational parameters.
