Moottorilämmittimen

Moottorilämmitin, often referred to as an engine heater or block heater, is a device used to preheat the engine of a vehicle. This is particularly beneficial in cold climates where engine oil can thicken significantly at low temperatures, making starting more difficult and increasing wear. The moottorilämmitin circulates a heating element through the engine's coolant system, raising the coolant and consequently the engine block to a more optimal operating temperature before the engine is started.

There are several types of moottorilämmittimet. The most common electric type uses a heating element immersed in the coolant, powered by an external electricity source. These are plugged into a wall outlet, usually via a cable routed through the vehicle's grille. Another type is an oil pan heater, which attaches to the bottom of the oil pan and heats the engine oil directly. Some systems also incorporate interior heaters to warm the passenger cabin simultaneously, often referred to as a combined or comfort heater.

Using a moottorilämmitin offers several advantages. It reduces engine wear during cold starts, as the preheated oil circulates more freely. It also contributes to faster cabin heating and can improve fuel efficiency by allowing the engine to reach its optimal operating temperature more quickly. Furthermore, it can reduce emissions by ensuring the engine operates more efficiently from the moment it starts. Installation typically involves integrating the heater into the vehicle's existing cooling system or attaching it to the oil pan.
