Monocoriónicos
Monocoriônicos is a term used in biology, specifically in the study of twinning, to describe a developmental outcome where twins share a single placenta. This occurs when the division of the fertilized egg happens after the formation of the chorion, the outermost embryonic membrane. In such cases, the embryos develop within the same amniotic sac, but are encased by a single chorionic sac. This shared placental environment can lead to a variety of outcomes, some of which require careful medical monitoring. The vascular connections within a single placenta can become complex, and in some instances, unequal sharing of resources can occur. This condition is often associated with a higher risk of certain complications compared to dichorionic twins, who have separate placentas. While monocoriônicos twins can develop normally, their shared placental structure necessitates close observation throughout pregnancy by healthcare professionals. The diagnosis is typically made through ultrasound imaging during prenatal care.
