Mondatrészletet is a Hungarian term that translates to "sentence fragment" in English. It refers to a group of words that is presented as a complete sentence but lacks the grammatical completeness of a full sentence. Typically, a sentence fragment is missing a subject, a verb, or both, or it might be a subordinate clause that has been punctuated as an independent sentence.

In Hungarian grammar, as in many other languages, sentence fragments are generally considered errors in formal writing. They can occur due to various reasons, including hasty composition, stylistic choices for emphasis, or simply grammatical oversight. While sometimes employed intentionally in creative writing for effect, such as in poetry or dialogue to mimic natural speech, their use in formal contexts like academic papers, news articles, or official documents is discouraged.

Identifying a mondatrészlet involves checking for the presence of a main clause, which requires both a subject and a predicate (verb). If either of these key components is absent, or if a dependent clause is presented as a standalone sentence, it qualifies as a sentence fragment. For instance, "Futó a kutya." (Running the dog.) is a fragment because while "kutya" is a subject and "futó" is a participial phrase, it lacks a finite verb to form a complete independent clause. A complete sentence would be "A kutya fut." (The dog is running.)
