Mitmepunkti

Mitmepunkti is a geometric concept used in Estonian-language mathematics to describe a point that lies on two or more geometric objects. In broader terms, it denotes a point common to multiple entities, such as lines, curves, surfaces, or other sets.

A mitmepunkt is defined as a point that belongs to every member of a given collection of objects. For example, the intersection point of two lines is a mitmepunkt of those lines. If several lines are concurrent, they share a single mitmepunkt. The concept extends to other shapes and higher dimensions, such as the common point of multiple curves or surfaces.

To find a mitmepunkt, one typically solves the conditions that express membership in each object. For linear objects like lines, this involves solving a system of linear equations. For a line and a circle, one would substitute the line equation into the circle’s equation and solve for the coordinates. In general, a mitmepunkt exists if the corresponding system has a solution; it may be unique, have infinitely many solutions (degenerate cases where objects coincide along a subset), or have no solution if the objects do not meet.

Examples include the intersection of the lines x = 0 and y = 0, which yields the mitmepunkt (0, 0). More complex cases consider the common point of multiple lines, curves, or spatial surfaces.
