Mirabel
Mirabel is the name of a municipality in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada. The city lies roughly 45 kilometers north of Montreal and is part of the broader Montreal metropolitan area. It is closely associated with the Montreal–Mirabel International Airport, a large facility located nearby. The airport opened in 1975 and was intended to serve as the region’s principal airport, but passenger traffic largely shifted to Montréal–Trudeau International Airport in the 1990s; since 2004 the facility has operated mainly for cargo flights and general aviation. The airport site continues to influence local transport and development, while the surrounding area has diversified with suburban growth and light industry.
Mirabel is also a feminine given name of French origin. Derived from the Latin mirabilis, meaning remarkable
In popular culture, Mirabel Madrigal is the fictional protagonist of the 2021 Disney animated film Encanto.
