Millimetric

Millimetric is an adjective that denotes relation to a millimetre or to measurements on the millimetre scale. It is used to describe dimensions, tolerances, or resolutions expressed in millimetres, as well as calculations that operate within that unit. The term is common in technical fields such as engineering, manufacturing, surveying, and optics, where precise size control is required. In practice, one may speak of millimetric accuracy, millimetric tolerances, or millimetric measurements.

The word derives from the unit millimetre (British spelling) or millimeter (American spelling). The adjective form millimetric follows expectations for -ic adjectives in scientific English, and is often used alongside expressions like millimetre-scale or micrometre-scale to distinguish magnitudes across orders of magnitude.

In engineering and metrology, millimetric refers to anything sized or specified in millimetres: components with millimetric dimensions, machining tolerances such as ±0.02 mm, or features measured by calipers and micrometers. In imaging and imaging systems, millimetric resolution or millimetric detail describes features at roughly the millimetre scale. In the field of electromagnetism, millimetric waves (millimeter waves) describe electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths around 1–10 millimetres, corresponding to frequencies roughly 30–300 gigahertz; devices and systems operating in this band are described as millimetric or millimetre-wave.
