Mikrokäytäviä

Mikrokäytäviä are microscopic channels or pathways found within solid materials, particularly in the context of materials science and engineering. These channels are typically on the order of micrometers in size, hence the name "mikrokäytäviä" (micro-channels). Their formation can be a result of various processes, including manufacturing techniques, natural geological phenomena, or degradation mechanisms within a material.

The presence and characteristics of mikrokäytäviä can significantly influence the properties of the material they inhabit. For instance, in porous materials, mikrokäytäviä form interconnected networks that dictate fluid flow, gas diffusion, and solute transport. This is crucial in applications such as filtration, catalysis, and in understanding the behavior of rocks in petroleum reservoirs or groundwater systems.
