Mie

Mie is a prefecture of Japan, located in the Kansai region on the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula. Its capital is Tsu. The prefecture has a varied coastline along Ise Bay to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the south, and includes parts of the Suzuka Mountains. The economy is diverse, with manufacturing, fishing, agriculture, and tourism playing major roles.

Mie is home to several notable sites and products. The Ise Grand Shrine, one of Shinto’s most sacred sites, is located in Ise. The area also encompasses Ise-Shima National Park and a portion of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes. Pearl farming has a long history in the region, including Mikimoto Pearl Island in Toba and surrounding coastal towns. Suzuka is known for the Suzuka Circuit, a major motor racing venue. Matsusaka produces renowned Matsusaka beef.

In Indonesian and Malay, mie refers to noodles, typically made from wheat flour. It is used in a wide variety of dishes, including mie goreng (fried noodles) and mie rebus (noodle soup).
