Middelharnis

Middelharnis is a village in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. It is located on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee and is part of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee. Historically, Middelharnis was a separate municipality until it merged with Sommelsdijk and other surrounding villages in 1966 to form the municipality of Middelharnis. In 2013, the municipality of Middelharnis merged with Oostflakkee to form the current municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee.

The village's name, Middelharnis, is derived from "Middel," meaning middle, and "harnasch," which referred to a protected harbor or a dike. This suggests its historical importance related to its location and defenses. The village has a characteristic long village layout along the dike. The harbor in the village center is a prominent feature.

Middelharnis has a number of notable buildings, including the Dutch Reformed Church, which dates back to the 15th century.
