Michalovce

Michalovce is a town in eastern Slovakia and the administrative seat of Michalovce District in the Košice Region. It lies on the Laborec River in the eastern part of the country and serves as a local economic, administrative and cultural center for the surrounding area. The town has a population of approximately 40,000 residents.

Historically, Michalovce has medieval roots and has been part of the Kingdom of Hungary, later the Czechoslovak state, and since 1993 Slovakia. The town developed through trade and industry and today hosts services, commerce, and light manufacturing that serve the district and region.

In terms of transportation, Michalovce is connected by road and rail to Košice and other nearby towns, providing regional access for residents and visitors. The town also functions as a local hub for education and health services, with several schools and healthcare facilities.
