Metrijärjestelmälle

Metrijärjestelmälle refers to the metric system, a universal system of measurement adopted by most countries worldwide. Its foundation is built upon the meter as the unit of length, the kilogram as the unit of mass, and the second as the unit of time. The system is decimal-based, meaning that units are related by powers of ten, making calculations and conversions straightforward.

The development of the metric system began in France during the French Revolution, with the aim of creating a standardized and rational system of measurement. The International System of Units (SI) is the modern form of the metric system, established in 1960. SI defines seven base units: the meter (m) for length, the kilogram (kg) for mass, the second (s) for time, the ampere (A) for electric current, the kelvin (K) for thermodynamic temperature, the mole (mol) for amount of substance, and the candela (cd) for luminous intensity.

All other units in the SI system are derived from these base units. For example, the unit of force, the newton (N), is derived from mass, length, and time (kg⋅m/s²). The use of prefixes, such as kilo- (1000), centi- (0.01), and milli- (0.001), allows for expressing very large or very small quantities conveniently.
