Metamorfikë

Metamorfikë refers to the process of metamorphism, which is the transformation of existing rock types, in a process called "metamorphism," which means change in form. The original rock is called the protolith. Metamorphism occurs when rock is changed by heat, pressure, or chemical reactions. Metamorphic rocks make up a large part of the Earth's crust and some volcanoes. They are classified based on texture and composition.

There are two main types of metamorphism: regional metamorphism and contact metamorphism. Regional metamorphism occurs over large areas, typically associated with mountain-building processes. The rocks are subjected to high pressures and temperatures for long periods. Contact metamorphism, on the other hand, occurs when rocks are exposed to high temperatures from an igneous intrusion. The heat alters the rock, but pressure is usually less significant.

The texture of metamorphic rocks can be foliated or non-foliated. Foliation is the parallel alignment of mineral grains or the compositional banding in a rock. Examples of foliated rocks include slate, schist, and gneiss. Non-foliated rocks, such as marble and quartzite, lack this layered appearance. The mineral composition of metamorphic rocks depends on the protolith and the conditions of metamorphism.
