It is not widely recognized in formal peer-reviewed literature, where standard terminology such as metal–ligand coordination, coordination chemistry, or metal–ligand bonding is preferred.

Concept and scope: The term encompasses concepts such as donor–acceptor interactions, ligand field theory, and the balance of covalent and ionic contributions to bonding.
