Merokriinisen

Merokriinisen is a term used in biology, specifically in the study of glands, to describe a type of secretion mechanism. It refers to the process by which cells release their secretory products through exocytosis without undergoing damage or loss of cellular material. This means the cell remains intact and functional after the secretion process.

In merokrine secretion, the secretory vesicles within the cell fuse with the plasma membrane. This fusion allows the contents of the vesicle, such as hormones, enzymes, or mucus, to be released into the extracellular space or lumen. The cell's cytoplasm and nucleus are not expelled during this process, distinguishing it from apocrine and holocrine secretion. Examples of merokrine glands include the salivary glands and sweat glands. The continuous and relatively rapid nature of merokrine secretion allows these glands to maintain their function over extended periods.
