Merevene

Merevene is a coastal town and municipality in the fictional country of Veridia. It sits on the Verdan coast at the mouth of the Lys River, about 60 kilometers southwest of Veridia’s capital. The municipality covers 38 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 11,000 people.

History and governance: Founded in the medieval period as a fishing village, Merevene expanded through maritime trade and shipbuilding. It is governed by a town council elected by residents, with a mayor serving as the head of government. Local administration operates under a council-manager framework since 1995.

Geography and economy: The landscape includes a rocky shoreline, a sheltered harbor, and nearby dunes. The economy relies on fishing, seafood processing, tourism, and small manufacturing. The harbor serves commercial as well as leisure boats, and there is a small marina.

Culture and landmarks: Merevene hosts an annual Sea Harvest Festival and maintains a compact historic center. Notable sites include the Merevene Lighthouse, the Old Town Hall, and Saint Brigid’s Chapel ruin. The town supports a local arts scene and a weekly market.

Transport and demographics: Accessible by regional road and rail, with ferry links to nearby isles. The population is predominantly native Veridians with a growing number of expatriate workers in tourism and shipping.
