Mediatori

Mediatori is the Italian plural of mediatore, literally meaning mediator. In general use, a mediator is a person who facilitates communication and agreement between parties, helping to resolve disputes, negotiate contracts, or broker arrangements in civil, commercial, or family matters. In international relations and diplomacy, mediatori (mediators) may be states, organizations, or individuals who guide dialogue, propose compromises, and help secure settlements.

In science, mediatori refers to chemical mediators, signaling molecules that regulate inflammation and immune responses. Examples include histamine, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, cytokines, and nitric oxide. These mediators are produced by immune or tissue cells in response to injury or infection and influence vascular tone, permeability, leukocyte recruitment, and tissue repair. In cell signaling, mediators can also denote intracellular messengers that convey signals from receptors to effectors, such as calcium ions and cyclic nucleotides.
