This device, the pacemaker, monitors the heart's electrical activity and sends electrical impulses to the heart muscle when it detects an abnormal rhythm, such as a slow heart rate (bradycardia) or irregular beats.

The decision to implant a pacemaker is made by a cardiologist after evaluating a patient's symptoms and heart condition. The generator, a small metal or plastic casing, contains a battery and electronic circuitry. Once the leads are secured and functioning correctly, the generator is placed in a pocket created beneath the skin.

After the surgery, patients usually remain in the hospital for a short period for observation. They are instructed on pacemaker care, including avoiding strong magnetic fields and informing healthcare providers about their implanted device. Regular follow-up appointments are essential to check the pacemaker's function, battery life, and the patient's overall health.
