Mauritians are the inhabitants of the island nation of Mauritius. The population is diverse, reflecting a complex history of settlement and migration. The primary ethnic groups include Indo-Mauritians, who form the largest segment of the population and are descendants of indentured laborers brought from India during the colonial era. Other significant groups are Creoles, of mixed African and European ancestry, and Sino-Mauritians, descendants of Chinese immigrants. Smaller communities of Franco-Mauritians, descendants of early French settlers, also exist.
