Markierte

Markierte is a German word-form that can function as the simple past tense form of the verb markieren (to mark) and as the attributive form of the adjective markiert meaning “marked.” In narrative prose, markierte corresponds to the preterite forms such as er markierte (he marked) and ich markierte (I marked). The past participle markiert is used with the auxiliary haben to form perfect tenses: ich habe markiert, er hat markiert.

As an attributive adjective, markierte precedes a noun and agrees in gender and number, as in die markierte Route (the marked route), der markierte Pfad (the marked path), and das markierte Gebiet (the marked area). In plural, the attributive form changes to die markierten Routen, die markierten Pfade, etc., reflecting standard German adjective declension after a definite article.

Beyond general grammar, markierte also appears in specialized contexts such as data labeling and cartography, where a feature or item has been marked or tagged. For example, markierte Daten refer to data points that have been annotated. In dictionaries and grammar references, markierte is discussed as a form with dual possibilities: it may be the simple past tense of markieren or the attributive form of the adjective before a noun, with the intended meaning clarified by context.
