Marias
Marias can refer to multiple things in astronomy, geography, and culture. In astronomy, marias (singular mare) are the large, dark basaltic plains on the Moon's surface. They were formed when ancient volcanic activity flooded large impact basins with lava. The term mare—Latin for "sea"—reflects early observers' impression of seas on the Moon. Most maria lie on the near side and comprise about 16 percent of the lunar surface. Notable examples include Mare Imbrium, Mare Serenitatis, Mare Tranquillitatis, and Oceanus Procellarum. In geography, the Marias River is a tributary of the Missouri River in northern Montana, United States.
In culture, The Marias are an American indie pop band formed in Los Angeles in 2016, known
