Maldonado
Maldonado is a department in southeastern Uruguay. Its capital is the city of Maldonado. The department is located along the Atlantic coast and includes a stretch of beaches and several resort towns, notably Punta del Este, Piriápolis, La Barra, and José Ignacio. The most internationally known destination is Punta del Este, a year‑round resort famous for its beaches, marina, and nightlife, as well as for Casapueblo, the sculptural building by artist Carlos Páez Vilaró situated near Punta Ballena.
