Makstatav

Makstatav is a rural locality situated in the Tashkent Region of Uzbekistan. It falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the Yunusobod District and is part of the larger Tashkent metropolitan conglomerate. The village is located approximately seventy‑five kilometres southeast of the capital city, Tashkent, and lies along the corridor that connects the northern uplands to the fertile Tashkent plain.

Historically, Makstatav originated in the early twentieth century as a modest settlement that grew around a waterfall spring— the local name derived from the Persian words for “waterfall” (makset) and “village” (av). The site was known for its small-scale agriculture, cultivating wheat, barley, and orchard fruits such as apricots and plums. Throughout the Soviet era, the local economy was reorganised under collective farming frameworks, with a state farm (kolkhoz) established in the 1950s. After Uzbekistan's independence in 1991, the collective farm was dismantled, and the area transitioned to a more diversified agricultural model, supported by irrigation projects that drew from the regional river system.

According to the most recent census conducted in 2020, Makstatav has a population of roughly 6,200 residents. The demographic composition is predominantly Uzbek, with minorities including Kyrgyz and Russian communities. The village hosts a primary education centre, a health clinic, and a community cultural centre that organizes traditional Uzbek music and dance performances. Infrastructure improvements over the past decade include the paving of the main road linking the locality to the district centre and the implementation of a renewable energy micro‑grid system that supplies solar power to public buildings. Despite its small size, Makstatav functions as a local hub for surrounding smaller settlements, providing essential services and participating in regional cooperation initiatives aimed at sustainable rural development.
