Majandussektorit refers to the different segments or branches of an economy, categorized based on the nature of economic activity. These sectors are crucial for understanding how a country's economy functions, its strengths, and its potential for growth.

The most common classification divides the economy into three primary sectors: the primary sector, the secondary sector, and the tertiary sector. The primary sector involves the extraction and production of raw materials. This includes agriculture, forestry, fishing, and mining. The secondary sector encompasses the processing and manufacturing of these raw materials into finished goods. This includes industries like construction, manufacturing, and energy production. The tertiary sector, also known as the service sector, involves providing services rather than tangible goods. This broad category includes retail, transportation, healthcare, education, finance, and tourism.

In developed economies, the tertiary sector typically dominates, contributing the largest share to the gross domestic product and employment. Developing economies often have a more significant proportion of their workforce engaged in the primary and secondary sectors. Analyzing the distribution and performance across these majandussektorit allows economists and policymakers to identify trends, formulate economic strategies, and address potential imbalances within the economy.
