Magneettikäämi

Magneettikäämi, known in English as a magnetic coil or simply a coil, is a fundamental electrical component consisting of one or more loops of wire wound into a coil. When an electric current flows through the wire, it generates a magnetic field. Conversely, if a magnetic field changes in the vicinity of the coil, it can induce an electric current within the wire, a phenomenon known as electromagnetic induction.

The strength of the magnetic field produced by a magneettikäämi is proportional to the number of turns in the coil and the current flowing through it. The core material around which the wire is wound also significantly influences the magnetic properties. Commonly, these cores are made of ferromagnetic materials like iron, which greatly amplify the magnetic field. However, coils can also have air cores or cores made of non-magnetic materials.
