Madalpäästefilter

Madalpäästefilter, often translated as low-pass filter, is an electronic filter that passes signals in a range of frequencies below a certain cutoff frequency and attenuates frequencies above it. This means that frequencies lower than the cutoff point are allowed to pass through largely unhindered, while frequencies higher than the cutoff point are significantly reduced in amplitude.

The primary function of a low-pass filter is to remove high-frequency noise or unwanted components from a signal. This is useful in many applications, such as audio systems where it can remove hiss or static, or in telecommunications to isolate specific frequency bands. In digital signal processing, low-pass filters are essential for tasks like anti-aliasing, which prevents distortion when converting a continuous-time signal to a discrete-time signal.

The characteristics of a low-pass filter are defined by its cutoff frequency and its roll-off rate. The cutoff frequency is the point where the signal power is reduced by half, or by 3 decibels. The roll-off rate describes how quickly the filter attenuates frequencies above the cutoff frequency. Different types of low-pass filters exist, including passive filters, which use only resistors, capacitors, and inductors, and active filters, which also incorporate amplifying components like operational amplifiers. The choice of filter type depends on the specific requirements of the application, such as the desired attenuation, power consumption, and cost.
