Maantie
Maantie is the Finnish term for a public road outside built-up urban areas that serves as a link between towns, rural areas and regions. Maantiet form a central part of Finland's road network and are used for inter-city and long-distance traffic as well as freight. The majority of maantiet are paved and designed as single- or dual-carriageway roads; some segments in sparsely populated areas may be gravel. They differ from streets within towns (katu) and from motorways (moottoritie).
Within the maantie category, the road network includes valtatie (national main roads) and kantatie (regional roads).
