MMRproteiinien, short for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella proteins, refers to the viral proteins that are the target of the MMR vaccine. The MMR vaccine is a combination vaccine that protects against three common and potentially serious childhood diseases: measles, mumps, and rubella. Each of these diseases is caused by a distinct virus.

Measles is caused by the measles virus. Mumps is caused by the mumps virus. Rubella, also known as German measles, is caused by the rubella virus. The MMR vaccine contains weakened, or attenuated, live versions of these three viruses. When these attenuated viruses are introduced into the body, they trigger an immune response without causing significant illness. This immune response involves the production of antibodies that can recognize and neutralize the actual disease-causing viruses if the individual is exposed to them in the future.
