Mäluüksused

Mäluüksused, often translated as memory units or memory elements, are fundamental components in digital systems responsible for storing information. These units can range from very small, like a single bit, to larger, more complex structures capable of holding vast amounts of data. The basic principle behind a mäluüksus is its ability to retain a particular state, representing a binary value of either 0 or 1.

In practical terms, mäluüksused are the building blocks of all forms of computer memory. This includes volatile memory, such as Random Access Memory (RAM), which loses its stored information when power is removed, and non-volatile memory, like flash memory or hard disk drives, which retains data even without power. The design and technology employed in mäluüksused vary significantly depending on the intended application, speed requirements, and cost considerations. For instance, DRAM cells, a common type of RAM mäluüksus, utilize a capacitor and a transistor to store a bit, requiring periodic refreshing to maintain the charge.
