Lämpötilapiirit, also known as temperature loops or thermal loops, are systems designed to regulate and maintain a specific temperature within a defined space or process. These systems are crucial in a wide range of applications, from industrial manufacturing and laboratory equipment to residential heating and cooling. The fundamental principle behind a lämpötilapiiri involves a sensor that measures the current temperature, a controller that compares this measurement to a desired setpoint, and an actuator that adjusts the system to bring the temperature closer to the setpoint.

The temperature sensor is the input component of the loop. The controller, which can be analog or digital, processes the sensor's signal. If the temperature deviates from the setpoint, the controller sends a signal to the actuator. Actuators are the output components and can vary depending on the application. Examples include valves that control the flow of heating or cooling fluid, heating elements, or fans.

The operation of a lämpötilapiiri is often described as a feedback loop. The system continuously monitors, compares, and adjusts, aiming for a stable and consistent temperature.
