Lämpötilamittareita, or temperature sensors, are devices used to measure and record temperature. They are essential in various fields, including meteorology, medicine, and industrial processes. Temperature sensors can be classified into two main types: contact and non-contact sensors.

Contact sensors directly touch the object whose temperature is being measured. They include thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), and thermistors. Thermocouples consist of two different metal wires joined at one end, generating a voltage proportional to the temperature difference between the junction and the other ends. RTDs use the change in electrical resistance of a metal to indicate temperature changes, while thermistors rely on the change in resistance of a semiconductor material.

Non-contact sensors measure temperature without physical contact. Infrared thermometers, for example, detect the infrared radiation emitted by an object and convert it into a temperature reading. These sensors are useful in situations where direct contact with the object is not possible or desirable.

Temperature sensors are chosen based on factors such as the required accuracy, the temperature range, the environment, and the specific application. They play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality control in various industries.
