Lämpöpatterin

A lämpöpatteri, often translated as a radiator or heating element, is a device used to transfer heat into a room or space. In its most common form, it is a metal enclosure, typically made of steel or cast iron, filled with a heating medium. This medium is usually hot water or steam circulated from a central heating system. As the hot water or steam flows through the lämpöpatteri, it heats the metal surfaces of the device. These surfaces then transfer the heat to the surrounding air through convection and radiation.

Convection occurs as the air in contact with the lämpöpatteri is warmed, becomes less dense, and rises. Cooler air then moves in to take its place, creating a continuous circulation that warms the entire room. Radiation involves the emission of infrared energy from the heated surfaces of the lämpöpatteri, which directly warms objects and people in its line of sight. Modern lämpöpatterit often feature fins or an increased surface area to enhance heat output. Their design can vary from traditional column radiators to more contemporary panel radiators, often integrated into building heating systems to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.
